What Should Go Into My Profile?

One of the great things about online dating services is that you can usually write a much longer and more informative profile than in a newspaper personal ad. It doesn't mean that you have to waffle just to fill up the space but it does mean that you don't need to learn the language of personal ads. Most people know that GSOH means Good Sense Of Humor and that WLTM means Would Like To Meet but there really isn't a need to use these, or the more obscure abbreviations, online - it only confuses newbie's.

Some dating services give you the opportunity to add a tagline to your profile. This is the first chance you have to make an impression and get someone to notice your profile amongst all the others. 'Romeo seeks Juliet' is a bit corny these days but you get where we're coming from. If your service includes this feature then try to write something that is eye catching. Don't be tempted to be smutty - your profile will just get passed over by so many people, but something a little cheeky or risqué can work a treat!

In creating your online profile you must try to show your favorable qualities. Dating services are crammed full of people with great qualities and you need to make yours shine through. Remember - no one else will know anything about you - until you tell them. So be bold and tell people exactly what makes you tick and what puts you to sleep, the type of person you're looking for and the sort of people you hope to avoid! If you've a gift for telling a joke then don't just say you have a good sense of humor - show it! If you're an avid reader then tell people the last couple of books you read and what you thought of them. Let your personality jump out of the computer!

It's easy, on a profile, to shave a few birthdays off your age and become a bit slimmer than you really are. People usually do this hoping they'll receive more interest from potential partners. Hmm, easy to do on a profile, hard to do in real life though! Depending on the little white lies that you told you'll probably have to tell the truth on the first date. What could have been a fantastic date can turn into a nightmare! Even if you both end up going through with the date you'll be wondering if they'll call again or if they'll blow you out next time you suggest meeting up. We recommend avoiding this awkward situation all together by being honest to start with. Better to have a few people interested in who you really are than have lots of people interested in something you're not!
