Do More Men Than Women Register With Internet Dating Services?
Yup! Men are far more likely to try internet dating than women. The reasons are complex and aren't really that important but armed with this knowledge you can turn it to your advantage.
Our experience suggests that men are still a bit more outgoing and are far more likely to try making initial contact than women. Knowing this allows us to offer some very important bits of advice. It means that guys can't afford to register and then sit back and see if any women contact them - they're probably too busy dealing with the number of messages from potential matches that have decided to be proactive about things to need to go making the initial contact. We're not saying that it won't happen but you are reducing the likelihood of getting the most from your internet dating experience. So come on guys - you still probably need to make the first move so go through your match list and start sending messages. Women can often afford to take a slightly more laid back approach.
If women who try internet dating receive so many messages then how's a guy supposed to get his message noticed over and above all the others? Good question! We've dedicated a section to messaging later on but as we mentioned before it's always a good idea to add a photo of yourself to your profile so your match can "put a face to the name." You must try to think of something interesting to say in your message. Just writing, "Hi, my name's John. Get back to me if you're interested" doesn't set the world on fire now does it? You need to show that you've read their profile and are interested in knowing more about them while being open about yourself. You don't need to tell them your life story but you need to say just enough to get them interested enough in you to want to respond and ask more about you.
You mustn't expect everyone to reply to you just because you're trying internet dating. You can't possibly be everyone's idea of the perfect partner - you know you're great, it's just that other haven't realized yet!
