How Do I Subscribe To A Personals Site? Should I Pay When There Are Free Sites Available?

Singles dating sites offer subscriptions in several different ways. Some allow you to buy 'credits' which allow you to send a certain number of messages. A few insist that you install a new bit of software on your computer that makes your computer dial into the website's server. This means that you pay for the service through your telephone call charges. This works OK for many people - but most offices are on networks meaning that the computer at your desk probably won't be able to dial a different server. Some people don't even have dial-up modems fitted anymore so it won't be suitable for them either. Other matchmakers, such as Pearmatch, prefer to use a simpler system where you just subscribe using your credit or debit card for a fixed period of time. It costs you the same no matter how many messages you send or receive.

Some personals sites, such as Pearmatch, let you use all of the site's features, except for sending and receiving messages, without paying a subscription fee. This allows you to see all of your matches, change your profile and the sort of person you are looking for, and get used to finding your way around the site before deciding whether you want to subscribe or not.

Perhaps the biggest reason for subscribing to a paid-for matchmaking service is that you can be sure that if you receive a message from someone else then they are serious about meeting someone and not just messing around on a free site!
