… And Making The Right One!

We've talked quite a bit about the don'ts so now were going to move on to the do's of finding internet romance.

We said before that the 'cookie cutter' approach to sending messages is usually pretty easy to spot and that you really need to show that you'd made an effort. One of the easiest but most effective ways of doing this is to latch on to a particular part of their profile. For example, you could say that you are interested in where their photo was taken - why not even guess at where you think it might have been taken. Perhaps you can share some of your experiences if you have a common interest. Because you subscribed to a dating service looking for internet romance doesn't mean that you can stop trying!

Humor can sometimes work well - so long as you make sure that everyone will realize it's a joke - you don't want to get off on the wrong foot by being misinterpreted. Just like any romance, internet romance thrives and flourishes on questions (not too personal or pushy though), conversation and common interests.

You must take the time to write your message as well as you possibly can. Check it for spelling mistakes and ensure that it plain makes sense before you send it. Most people are not great writers in the traditional sense of the word. That's fine - you don't need to be capable of writing beautiful prose to find internet romance. It's enough to show that you were interested enough in their profile to write and do remember to give them lots of opportunities to write back to you with interesting questions and thoughts. It's far more likely that someone will respond to a message that is easy to reply to rather than one where they've got to start with a blank sheet of paper. If you can, spell check your message before you let it go off.
